I think you forgot a metric-to-imperial factor in there someplace. Otherwise it looks right to me.

Did not some of Mr Benz'es wheels have the 5x112 bc, and amenable offset? From the wagon?

What does look good from the Mercedes wheel lineup is the steel 16's that some of the Vanagon guys run

Re: trials and tribulations of putting non-stock bus wheels
16 x 7 steel wheels from a ~2000 Mercedes Benz C240
Spacers are required to run these 16's though.
The merc steel wheels you can just run without any effort is actually a 15 inch by 6.5, seen here:
These 15's are Mercedes part number 2024000102. These came on the C-Class cars from '94-'98. These should be a bolt on front and rear. The front's might get a little tight depending on how wide of a tire you choose. A 5-7mm spacer would cure that though.
With a baywindow bus, id lean towards running the 15 inch and not the 16, as the extra sidewall does help absorb some of the bumps along the way. The 16's might be a little too jarring on our declining roads with the shorter sidewall.

Re: trials and tribulations of putting non-stock bus wheels
Surely it would be easier with the wide 5 style as you could weld on those little tabs that hold the caps in place. Perhaps an option also on bays with creative welding work

Re: trials and tribulations of putting non-stock bus wheels
I suspect you could weld those tabs on any rims to get either style of bay bus hubcaps to fit. We don't want to drill/rivet in to rims, right?airkooledchris wrote:Surely it would be easier with the wide 5 style as you could weld on those little tabs that hold the caps in place. Mercedes wheels are only an option for the late bays . . . therefore, the flat hubcaps only.airkooledchris wrote:Surely it would be easier with the wide 5 style as you could weld on those little tabs that hold the caps in place. Perhaps an option also on bays with creative welding work
There has to be a way, maybe utilizing spring wire and hooks that fit the removal holes on the hubcaps?

Re: trials and tribulations of putting non-stock bus wheels
Oh man! I'm trying to do this grafting welding thing right now to a 2000 diesel new beetle stock steelies that came attached to a bug I bought for my wife for Christmas!
I'm riveted (literally) to this idea Colin said of stock VW hubcaps on modern rims! Good thing to do on my 2015 appt with the wandering one maybe???

Hell ya. But in today's litigious society, you will have to sign the release of liability form and send a notarized copy to your insurance company, personal lawyer and authorized next of kin, weisswurst wrote:Oh man! Re: trials and tribulations of putting non-stock bus wheels
The 5 x 112 b/c pattern happens on Rabbit and Jetta. I just saw 4 on CL, 15", steel.
(Though the front wheel drive have a offset way different from bus.)
Anyone care to confirm my suspicions of non fit? Or what offset IS stock for late Bay?

Part# and everything.
Much easier than guessing about clearances of rear castle nut and front grease cap, cl offset which is 39mm from centerline of rim..sheesh, way too much complexity.
Lured by the familiar porsche, audi,vw 5x112 b/c shopping gets quickly too.complicated for reward.
Stock steel with fresh snows are all I needs.
Meanwhile, those 15"steel M benz wheels do offer some tire choice in the 15"range.. time to shop before summer.//Eric in NJ
