Opinions on Rubber Matting
Hiya, am considering using ribbed black matting for the Squareback instead of carpeting.
Black rubber or vinyl are available for pretty darn cheap. Anyone know the benefits of either?
Here is the stuff I'm considering:
http://www.americanfloormats.com/corrug ... nner-mats/
or this one, comes in gray! That would be interesting with a yellow exterior.
http://www.americanfloormats.com/kleens ... nner-mats/
Any recommendations on the thickness? Not sure if 1/8" is thick enough but it may have to do. Hopefully it will stay put.
Thanks!
Found a local place, I'll give them a call on Monday.

Re: Opinions on Rubber Matting
there was one on the oregon site that was oil and fat resistant. commercial kitchen flooring? maybe the " more than an 1/8" " corrugated rubber one, unless it's stupid expensive.

Re: Opinions on Rubber Matting
1/8 seems thick; I'd bet most commercially available mats (i.e. ones that were used in production) were less. Though I guess that could be about money, rather than quality.
I use the rubber mat for my Vanagon westy that Go Westy sells. It's got little indentations in it to catch dirt/water/etc. so the original may have been as thick as 1/8", but it probably isn't quite that thick in actuality. Thickness will add weight, while lessening flexibility, but would, I assume, also be more durable once you got it in place.
Are you planning to sleep on it at all (i.e. car camping)? If so, I'd think leaning towards thicker would be better.
Best,
Mike

Re: Opinions on Rubber Matting
Not sure about sleeping on it. It will have a layer of Dynamat below as well, at least in the rear. Durability is important.

Re: Opinions on Rubber Matting
look at the thickness of those mats "made to fit" in a flaps, see what the thickness of the quality ones are.

Re: Opinions on Rubber Matting
I would go thin. Probably rubber. Vinyl hardens and is stiffer. I would think a product designed as flooring would see heavier wear as flooring than on the floor in a VW.

Wow. Spam-bots are pretty amusing sometimes. Especially with the link in the sig line. What's even funnier is I wouldn't put it past Hambone to transport some type of pack animal in his ACVW so perhaps the post is more relevant than it appears at first glance!

Re: Opinions on Rubber Matting
I dunno, the way some folks talk about using the sink for a toilet I think the fact that urine runs right off the mats might be appealing...
Seriously, how do those bots end up finding a thread like this, signing up, and posting a response? Weird.
