Convertible Top Headliner
Hi all you 'vert owners! Does your headliner have these little plastic buttons holding it up like mine in this picture?

Re: Convertible Top Headliner
Not on a Ghia convertible as the headliner attaches to the bows of the metal frame so that its all hidden.

Re: Convertible Top Headliner
Thanks Geoff. I called 'Chuck' from Chuck's Convertibles and he had no idea what I was talking about when I was describing the buttons. He confirmed your statement that the headliner attaches directly to the bows. If I survive Christmas without bankruptcy, complete top replacement is going to be my winter project.

Re: Convertible Top Headliner
Do what I did one year and give black candy coal to the kids saying this is what you get when you are bad. My kids have never forgotten it...
My winter project is to replace the OEM insulation pad as the outside is newer but what the hell, why didn't they replace the pad which is in pieces and a mess.

Re: Convertible Top Headliner
From what I can tell so far, the headliner goes in first, then the pad, then the outer cover (the actual top). It seems if done correctly, there is no way to replace any of the three components other than in that order. I'm kinda looking forward to sinking my teeth into it.

Re: Convertible Top Headliner
I am looking forward to seeing the results. I shall . . . replace the headliners in Chloe and the Squareback, now that factory white is back.dtrumbo wrote:From what I can tell so far, the headliner goes in first, then the pad, then the outer cover (the actual top). Re: Convertible Top Headliner
Colin why are you replacing a part that hasn't lived it's full life yet? You gave me crap for that, and now I'm stuck with that modus.

Re: Convertible Top Headliner
Headliners are not service/wear items. They are "aesthetic" items that are dead to me at the first tear. Both the Squareback and the Chlo have tears in the headliners. Therefore, I get to replace them and fix the insulating mats and the bows that are hidden above them. And I can check/repair the windshield channel on Chloe at the same time, and I can replace the non-chrome windshield surround with the korrect chrome windshield surround on the Squareback and repair any windshield channel rust on it! Thus helping both live full lives! OK???hambone wrote:Colin why are you replacing a part that hasn't lived it's full life yet? You gave me crap for that, and now I'm stuck with that modus.
NOW THEN: what crap over what part are you possibly referring to? CV joints with less than a quarter million miles?
