Earn Karmic Points AND Get Fed!!!
Yep, Miss Zora and I need your help. Her current engine will probably not get us to Burning Man and back. However, I do have a spare engine for swapping. I just need a few knowledgeable and semi-strong folks to help me do just that and SOON! I will provide food and drink. Let's make an engine swapping party out of it!!! I leave on August 25th....not much time!
Thank you!

Is that like a key party?misszora wrote:Let's make an engine swapping party out of it!!!
I wish I could help, I'll be sending the good vibes southbound. Hopefully your new-to-you engine is in better shape that the one you're swapping out. All the best!

This engine came out of a bus that got hit by a logging truck. I actually spoke to the owner and he said it was running just fine. However, it's been on the ground wrapped in a tarp for about 2 months now. Fingers crossed!

Re: Earn Karmic Points AND Get Fed!!!
"probably" wont get you there and back?
how so?
an engine that might make it might be a better candidate to go suck up a bunch of playa dust, rather than put a nice fresh rebuild through the dusty ringer.

Re: Earn Karmic Points AND Get Fed!!!
Paige,
My understanding is you want to take the engine you have on the ground and swap it for the one you have in Zora. It's a risk but no more so than the risk of running into the desert with an engine that is giving you 'concerning noises'.
"however, I'm definitely getting a clackety sound and Colin thinks it's a sign..."
Of?....more info please.
Are you driving Zora now? Is this a pending catastrophic failure sound or a "It can be limped along til I get back then swap" sound?
I am not sure what a bellhousing is other than a portion of the tranny that mates with the engine around the flywheel? Need more info here.
Do you have engine pulling tools: jack(s), Stands?, Or is this bus one that has the pull away apron that I am so envious of.... and will only require a ATV stand to lower and lift an engine?
Full array of tools?
Space to work? Is this going to be on the street? Flat driveway? gravel?
Will this include swapping over heat exchangers? Exhaust? Have you confirmed that all fitment will work? (ie the engines match up?)
Just a few questions to spur things along. I may be able to give some time this Sunday. Any other takers out there? Afternoon engine Swap....???

Re: Earn Karmic Points AND Get Fed!!!
Hey there,
The engine is a '77 just like MZ's. I'd like to swap the engine and use MZ's exhaust, distributor, wire harness. I have the tools, the engine lift, stand, one floor jack, a back parking lot, no garage.
The bellhousing is what you described...as far as I know. I want to test that engine before putting in the labor.
The clacking sound increased once Colin & I got cylinders #1 & #3 running again. compression on #1 is now at 45. I am leaning toward driving it into the desert as is with frequent valve checks to and from but would really hate to destroy the engine.
I am heading up to Sandy this weekend for a campout/band thing...my band is playing at one of the bandmate's property this weekend.
I'm wide open next Sunday. I've actually contacted a place on recommendation to see if they could test my engine.
thanks so much!

Re: Earn Karmic Points AND Get Fed!!!
I found a bellhousing...now I need a spare wiring harness. Can't use MZ's because I need her in the mean time.
Does anyone know where the heck to get a working one? I'm taking the spare engine in next Tuesday for testing.
thanks!!!!
