and visitatin' with passing VW aficionados on their way to Albuquerque, I am also mulling which of my poor chariots must be called-upon to slog through the insults of rain and hail and potholes and gravel strikes and door dings and those dopey little gurus with greasy paws absent-mindedly closing the sliding door into the edge of an open toolbox drawer, I know it is going to happen:

A) The BobD, last out on the road in 2014, currently at 111,155 miles, needs a decarbonization of heads before heading out due to a 160 psi reading in cylinder #4.




B) NaranjaWesty, currently at 97,179 miles, needs replacement heads only because of a failed exhaust stud boss on #4, and it needs a bearing retainer plate installed in the transaxle




C) Chloe,last out on the road in 2017, currently at 206,820 miles, needs a battery, and will pick up a balanced generator and fan from Robbie when I get west. Engine has ridiculous compromised heads but is running well.





Yesterday, I received two sets of Len Hoffman's finest ceramic coated heads. Who gets to eat any more? Not me. Who needs to eat? Not me, here at 177 fluffy fat pounds, not any more. Gonna work out perfect.
Vote for which chariot you'd like to see on the 2019 Itinerary.

Geez that’s a tough call. For your comfort I’d say the westy but it’s been a while for the Bob D, but then I’m also a bit bias towards Chloe.

id vote for the chrome yellow Westfalia over almost anything you could put on that list. id vote for the Lincoln if gas consumption wasn't a concern.

Why not Pluck?

I'd love to see you in any of them, but alas it's not a possibility this year

Isn't the vehicle supposed to pick you?

Take the one you like driving the most; the action of the suspension, the accuracy of the steering, the support of the seat, and the sweet song of the engine. All other considerations are theoretical.

evidently I'm in the minority (at this point) picked Chloe. She's your new 'road warrior' she's got the most miles and needs the least amount of work...oh...and she's got the layout you most desire (transporter)...oh...and she's the oldest and has more of that OG charm that you desire. But hey...like someone else said, let the car pick you.

EDIT: My vote is for the Lincoln or the Benz...both have got a backseat you can sleep in.

Bob D or NW (no offense to Chloe).
I selfishly want to see your well-sorted type 4 engine with all of its complete parts (since I’m still trying to restore some missing elements in my engine bay).

But regardless, will be very glad for you visit.

Take the one you like driving the least. Because by the end, you will have made it into the one you like the most (until the next lap starts).

Well, thank-you all for your input.
If these cars like to get out on the road, then the BobD is most due.

If avoiding damage is paramount, then Chloe has the strongest paint on the front end.

If screened windows count for anything, NaranjaWesty is the one.

Now that I have two sets of Len Hoffman heads, it does not matter which of the Type 4 engines is chosen to do the country. Whichever one will have yuck AMC heads.

Stay tuned. I am so trapped at the drawing board on this beautiful day, I would rather be yanking an engine out.

Well, if this were me and given that Chloe, BobD, and NaranjaWesty are all road-worthy, reliable companions, and ONE had the options of screened windows - and factoring summer nights and bugs and the option of a breeze whilst I slept, I would chose NaranjaWesty OR outfit the BobD or Chloe with screens.

BUT, Colin this is your call. And while each of us inhabits our respective dwellings awaiting your visit (which most likely feature screened windows or possibly even AC), I would opt for the option of a breeze.
