Yeah the VW world seems to be drying up in Portland, since the big migration here started. It has been tough to find steady work on air cooleds. It is also now impossible to find a local Bus for less than many thousands. This all happened rather abruptly. And, I lost my shop and most of my gumption, it has been a draining few months. Now what?
I'm currently at 28th and Glisan right now, inner NE Portland by I84. You are most welcome.

I would hope you two would connect. Hambone only lives 10 blocks from my place. You could see him Sunday after my visit. I'd invite him over. But we working on type 4 motors :thumbleft:
Just messing with you Hammy :sunny: you know where to find us. Now will Sluggo be coming out of the cave to the Lab Monday? I'll take it easy on you Robbie. :drunken:

This was a discouraging paragraph to read. I have always regarded the Portland scene as the Mecca for the air cooled set. South Florida has a fair size group of air cooled aficionados, but nothing compared to the west, I've felt. The term, "big migration", puzzles me. Are people coming in, or leaving, and how does this effect the VW world out there? And, Hambone, you had a shop in Portland? I hope things improve for you out there. I want to get in on one of those Lucky Lab deals on one of my trips.

So, what answer did we just give 71whitewesty? What answer might we find amongst ourselves? I take it you are coming up to Portland area, yes?

I think there is interest if you guys want to do it. Where's Hambone, isn't he our official outdoor camping guide? :thumbleft:

Yes he is, but you have to ride him, ride him hard to muster up the enthusiasm and focus and encyclopedic knowledge of the great outdoors. Then I'll get to compare my engine to a bunch of Type 1 buses vis a vis cooling fan/generator balance, overall engine balance, end play comparisons, and now, oil leak comparisons.

I mess up that plural all the time. Thanks for the lesson. I'll see if I can shake Hambone loose.

Obfuscation is my specialty. I'll be in the Portland area a week from today, with no set plans other than the lab. Of course camping is always on my to-do list...

Well Ian, glad you asked:

Aug 15 D NYCynthia ......................................Newhall CA
Aug 21 Total Eclipse Chase ...............................Currently Casper WY
Sep 9 D ScottLasVegas ................................Las Vegas NV

I hope to pass through Death Valley on my way to Casper (I should do upsimba in Torrington near about then).
I need a couple of days elbow room to escape clouds, people, and I need to be in a narrow 70 mile band of totality. So far, it is a dirt road south of WY 212 west of Casper and I will cross-country travel to be away from the millions of eclipse tourists and their beer, RVs, generators yapping dogs, stale jokes, etc.

Heh, if you want eclipse tourists, beer, and stale joke I'll be in Tryon, Nebraska with the bus, my telescope, and the fridge. I'll have room and a pair of eclipse glasses for you if you're lonely :geek:

The dogs will be at the doggy hotel, and the generator will be left in the barn next to my Dad's RV.
