Hello,

I am on a late-season walkabout to miss the "cold" wave coming through Atlanta, and as importantly to miss every bit of news between now and the election. In Chloe, southbound on I-75, I have as my destination a favorite abandoned industrial park layout in which to camp, do the stupid spring plate bushings for real, and tear the engine down to reinstall Bookwus' original cylinder heads. The week ahead promises upper 70s and sunny sunny sunny, as opposed to y'all on the northeast who are bracing for a storm. My condolences and best wishes.

In the evening hours, I shall start adding up and organizing every receipt received over the summer. Then I will post the results. My condolences and best wishes to me too.

As an accountant and a bus owner, I'm eagerly awaiting this year's results.

Wow, sounds like a fun plan. I missed the head rebuilding of Bookwus's heads. Last I saw they had the wrong size valves in em. what's the scoop on em? Take em to Len for a complete restore? Titanium valves with chrome seats with ceramic coatings? :study:

I dropped them off at Performance Workshop in Riverside CA for new exhaust seats and I supplied the new correct-sized Osvat (Italian) exhaust valves that I bought long ago in response to diminishing valve clearances.

I of course worried and fretted and pestered the guy about his seat installation techniques and the attentiveness of his work force. Talked with the guy who was going to do the actual seat installation and gave him a link to this site. "Your seats will be exercised thoroughly and in front of many people who will tune in to see how they hold up." "No problem," he assures me. "Am skeptic," I tell him. But the heads look good with no sand-blasting residue, plenty of Prussian blue on each valve seat, and properly inserted guides (though I do not know if they nailed the interference spec). Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's hopin'.

Erm, isn't the machinist supposed to remove that stuff when he's finished the job?
More importantly, did he properly set the valve-to-seat contact width by trimming it with the 75-degree and 15-degree cutters?

Nah, its like the money shot in porno as you need proof that he did it. It burns off the minute you fire it up.

I had no idea . . . anyways, yes, the valve seat widths are 2.2mm intake 3.0mm exhaust at a perfect 1mm+ away from the margins.

It is 62*. I am afraid I shall perish in the frightful cold.

I am envious of your ability to re-socialize me out to pizza on Wednesday, November 7th. I might need a lot of beer, depending on Amy's Election Results phone call earlier in the day.

Well, I will certainly tell you the 2013 results when 2013 has indeed finished up. Meanwhile, I have not finished compiling the confetti of receipts for 2012. I am on the road. When I have a desk, and a cup of coffee, and have drained the wanderlust out of my bloodstream, I shall organize, collate, add up and subtract, and publish the gruesome totals of my contribution to Exxon-Mobil and Motel6 and various mostly-stunned auto parts stores "what year is it?" and "where's the engine in that thing?" yep, at least ten people this last summer asked me that. Felt like 1950 all over again.
