Hell we haven't even talked about your storage fees at the C.A.R.B.B. (candy ass red bus barn). Just make sure you have plenty of greenbacks or be prepared to do some sharecropping.

I just discovered this thread this morning, and I learned a few valuable things from it, so thanks for keeping it up

Most importantly I don't want to rehash anything that has been settled, and I only want to emphasize the genuine hearts that seem to exsist here, and how the folks here are all top shelf! and how great that is for a newb like me.

I could not help but notice that the situation reminded me of my bus, and my journey with it.

I think it reminded me of trying to diagnose an engine problem with out Collin's CSI methodology

Here is my quick run down of what I have learned from this site, its great members, and Colin's unending supply of knowlege and caring. I am sure there is much I am leaving out, I noticed the rules to keeping your bus alive, seem to apply in most areas of my life :)

The short list:

Don't tear your engine out until you have done all the neccesary in vehicle testing
Do the work to get the scientific fact, to create a clear picture of the problem
Try to communicate clearly and concisely what your findings are
From there work with what you have, and always do the best you can
Don't be afraid to ask for help along the way, and always try to help someone if possible.
Enjoy the ride

This forum seems to be designed to embrace the emotional attachment/impact of fixing things yourself, and the importance of doing things right. To me it underlines the fact that we are all human and things can be a rollercoaster at times. It was here that I learned yet again, things are never as difficult as they seem when you have good folks around you.

As proven by the continued exsitence of this thread

Not yet, but Frito spends the winters in the garage. It is a problem for some, though. Paint job is poor.

Frito's at 50k miles now, still delivering 26 mpusg with zero issues.

So here's some snaps from the assessment process a Tuesday ago.

Perhaps the pressure plate is causing the vibration of concern, so inspection was in order. Engine only came out so far, so that the impending rain would only get Colin so wet.






Let the cross-hatching begin.






Then there was the compromised heat riser.






And a wonky pulley. Puller pulled a chunk out. Very stubborn.







Buttoning up, and a test drive.

And I will have a lingering journey from Portland to Atlanta in the later fall to deal with the malingering concerns. Good thing we had that nifty Hambone EZ Broil torch to help get the pulley off.
I would like to take a week in Portland to do some carb tweaking, a serious machine shop balance job on the flywheel and pressure plate, possibly generator bearings, and a new muffler with the prayer that we do not have a clogged heat riser under the intake manifold.

I like that first picture with Hambone and that pair of hands sprouting out from under the bus.

It is a wave of high-temp orange rtv slathered over a taped holy heat riser pipe.
New muffler is going in.

I heard it rained in Death Valley over the weekend. Is this true? If so can tell me which direction you are headed next so I can avoid it?
