The truncated one is for splitties, where the engine is located higher up in the chassis thus needing that dip down low to clear the bumper.
"Restriction" only occurs at maximum rpm where these bus engines are designed to strangle themselves before self-destructing. For decades and decades, VW buses have been trundling across the landscape in their maddenly slow way, happily... with no oil filters, even. :blackeye:

NOT that ugly ass bent truncated gnarly putrefication that I had to rip off and chuck in the dumpster yesterday

Someone in Homer, Georgia "Have a lot of these" for $11 each on The Samba classifieds right now:
NOS Bus Tail Pipe 68-71 Model

might be worth picking up a couple 2/3 spares while they are out there.

They fail at the "bend" test. See that ripple where the mandrel must not have had a decent grip, and the curve doesn't quite make it to a full 90*? I do not think those are NOS at all. These Wolfsburg West deals are dead smooth consistent and radiused uber-correctly. But thanks for keeping an eye peeled.

Eh when you get a bagful of discount parts on the fly from a kind lackey, there are bound to be some errors. If you lived here we'd just go in and exchange it.

After smelling exhaust for so long, I am very happy with the tailpipe that makes it to the slipstream. There is something about those pictured pipes that are not working for me ... like they are too short.

As our cars atrophy, we are saddled with compromise. It's frustrating!
It's also a matter of cost. Sometimes a rig up is good enough. God help you if ya try to disassemble anything...but it can last many years.
Nothing to do with anything, but why is the stock electrical system so fragile? It works well, but God help you if ya try to disassemble.

They are not so much fragile as beaten. People yank those connectors off the spades with violent wiggling and thrashing and that of course weakens the connection. A nice easy pry with a small screwdriver straight back, followed by a DeOx gel re-attachment, and these systems last for a half million miles.

Heat plus oil....makes insulation brittle and crack

Anyways...I never liked those Bosch early style f.I. Inceptor connectors

Try working with those crappy Djet FI connectors that fall off as the rubber boots are what hold them in.
