Post by phileide » Sat May 15, 2010 4:36 pm

I did the compression test on the bus in Jackson, MS.. 145 in 1 and 2, 165 in 3 and 4.

Did the test with all plugs out and a screw in compression tester.

165 is pretty high. But then again, what is the story with compression tester quality these days? Relatively even across the engine, twill do.
Brakes behaving? Kids?

I have been holding off so I can keep pushing the entire schedule back as new people get onboard, but I think we can cement things in.
Will fill it in over the next week-ish, k?

Weather in Missoula for amskeptic, the best it's looked in three years:
Image
Ludwig--1974 Westfalia, 2.0L (GD035193), Solex 34PDSIT-2/3 carburetors.
Gertie--1971 Squareback, 1600cc with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection from a '72 (E brain).

I only hope and pray the carbs I was WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY behind on for Mitch meet your approval... and tune out well when you get there to help Mitch with that new engine.

Please LET ME KNOW.

Kind regards,

Keith

( anyone else who is waiting on anything from me my apologies... I am still alive... and so just contact me directly for the sake of getting all this cleared up. I have had some issues in life recently (have not we all :blackeye: ) but I am here to get things resolved.

Ya'll should stop by in Walla2, we will be leaving here on the morning of the 18th for Maupin. Bill would complete the model line up going down the road.

It's looking like this visit'll be a mission to get the Squareback dependable, not getting Ludwig going as Rocky Jennings isn't done with the engine yet. Maybe if Colin clears Gertie for extended road travel, we'll think about tenting it at Maupin, but barring that we'll be no-shows this year.

Weather for CK still looks good though.

TELL Rocky Jennings to get done with the engine. It takes a day to assemble. We need to get the Keifernet carbs on the engine and tuned. How long has it been since your bus has been down? I don't want to make Keifernet have to lose sleep for any longer than necessary :cyclopsani:
(how long have we floated the plan to get your dual carbs on and dialed in?)

I like him and all, but don't take Rocky to be the kind of guy who would respond well to my TELLING him I need the engine finished today and next-day aired to me. I take him to be the kind of guy that would at least suggest I take a flying leap, at most send me back a box full of parts, packed with my shredded check.

There's a real sense in which Gertie is the more important vehicle anyway. Daily Driver! Plus maybe it'll be a good learning experience to install the engine and tune the carbs without a net.
