Eary VWs seem to be a strange marriage of crude + ballerina. I guess it's the steam-era heritage still shining thru. And the blacksmithy of Germanic Tribes.
I'll bet they're durable as hell in the mountains and offroad. Not just that silly Shasta Snow Trip, but when treated respectfully.

Ain't that the truth! We have never been this flooded, and it puts a damper on moods for sure. This ain't the PNW! No, wait, perhaps it is now. Monday morning it rained so hard, my Bus could not run the wipers fast enough to see. We did some pool, pizza and beer last night, I fear to think Colin may give up VW's and become a pool shark.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
