6 days on the road...Northern WI

About 890 miles total since last Sunday with my better half and two dogs. Bus ran great...had an electrical issue pop up early on and got lucky with a friend in the area who was able to fix it for us...one loose shock bolt on Friday otherwise trouble free.

On the Ferry near Merrimac in Central WI, I was told this is the last free Ferry for Autos in the world:

Camp at Devils Lake State Park the first night...it was about 50 and rain..we had a beer and dinner and went to bed.

On Monday morning we had cold breakfast and hit the road for about 150 mile drive to Wausau to stay at Rib Mountain State Park...We dealt with 50mph gust winds and driving rain. It was so damp and windy at the top of the Mountain that we had a soup dinner with a beer or two in the bus and snuggled tight for the night.

On Tuesday we drove the rest of the way to the American Legion State Forest which is loaded with small lakes and State Parks. Here's the dogs at a County Park we stopped at for lunch:

Here's the bus at the campsite:

It was finally dry enough to have a decent campfire and fire up the grill.

Here's one of the nearby lake we fished on:

Fall color drive:

Another '72 we spotted in Minocqua...MI plates and an interesting spare tire mount:

At the falls where we went for a nice hike:

Had a beer there and a snack...the beer was better

I will add some more pics and update with a few stories of the next couple of days.

Why does that beer need to be refrigerated?

Thanks for the pics, Ryno.

I don't know why it says that. I reckon it's more of a keep out of daylight thing than a fridgeration thang....

Great report. It looks like gorgeous country.

The ferry guys, however, led you astray. The ferry across Kootenay Lake, about 80 kms north of me, is also free. It's about a 35 minute crossing of BC's largest natural lake.

Thanks. It's actually a Vanagon side tent that I picked up years ago. It's so nice to just throw your gear in there and go on a day trip.

Next time, the canoe is going on the roof...Many of the lakes up there are designated "Absolutley no motors".

Sweet photos - looks like a nice fall setting. Too bad winter is settling in.

I dunno Sped....the merrimac brings back many childhood memories for me. My folks have owned property in the Necedah area since the late seventies and we used to cross at Merrimac all the time and stop at the little ice cream stand there. Ah...I'm done ramblin...for now.
