We had a pretty good time, made the best of it, for sure. That caterpillar is amazing, like a Chinese Dragon.

I'd like to see a meet up of east and west IAC, maybe in Missoula, Montana or thereabouts. Gypsie expressed some doubts about making it through some of the passes in the spring, but I think we can all take a page from the Mt. Shasta crowd.

My concern wasn't about spring but before spring. Even that is a slight concern. Them passes get traveled regular but 'slong way from home in the winter.

What species is that 'piller. one of the coolest fauna I've seen.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

This will be our Mt. Shasta. Finally we can measure ourselves against the splittie crowd.

You speak the truth - there Todd --- That drive is pretty killer. We did it this summer all the way to Winnipeg, Manitoba and back. This time I was really able to take in how beautiful Montana is especially the western side.

The Oregon and Washington guys are used to driving an hour at tops, I fear if we ask them to drive too far that it will never happen. Long haul driving in the bus is a unique experience.

Usually it's 2-5 hours, depending on how much time off.
I love the Clackamas, closest to town and littered with history. At least 1 1/2 hours usually further for the deep wilderness. You're right though, it's hard to justify driving 2 days with a little kid and impatient family when I can just go disappear into a magic valley down the road. And then of course the high desert is just down the road too. It's pretty exciting if you like that sort of thing.
I've driven cross country a number of times though and you're right it's special. Road-mind.
