We'll see aboot checking out the ski jump....I was there in my teens, it's pretty cool.

We're mostly looking for out of the way fishing spots and free camping on the WI side. 8 days on the road will be fun....If I bring my laptop, I'll post an update or two along the way.

We're departing Sunday morning for a 8 day trip in the bus...can't wait. I promise there will be some dandy pics from that deal.
Those people running the campground were nice folks - they were especially intrigued by the buses as they showed up one by one. Overall nice spot that I wont hesitate to go to again.

chitwnvw wrote:Ok boys and girls, pack up that bus and get ready for a bit of camping. I think we should shoot for Early October for optimum fall camping (not too cold, no bugs). Leaves beginning to turn.

I am going to throw out the Galena location since it seems fairly central to all of those who will be coming.

October 2-4, at the Wooded Wonderland, just outside Galena, IL.

Last call, boys and girls. You don't have to go home but you can't sleep here.

I'll be showing up with my kin around 6pm on Friday. Give me about a half hour to set up before it gets dark.

Temps look to be between 40 and 50, so bring your longjohns.

Sorry, can't make the WW trip. I now have two cats on daily IV fluids, one of them twice a day. It's like a cat nursing home around here lately. Enjoy the trip, and I hope it doesn't rain.

Sorry to hear that Loco. Be a good Dad to those cats.

I'm heading out around 3, should be there around 5. See you tomorrow, Manfred. Hopefully see you tonight, Hippie.

I wish. We will be there tomorrow. Ann has to work today and I have some work to do too, so we will have to leave for Galena in the morning.
I will get the camper packed up today though so we can leave as early as possible. :blackeye:

Looks like a chance of rain. Might be good to have your day room, give us a place to get out of the rain and play a game.

And rain it did, off and on all night. We got to the Wonderland after dark and managed to squeeze a quick dinner in, then it started to sprinkle and the kids were begging to go to bed.

In the morning it was wet, wet, wet.

We hung out in the bus for awhile.

Squeezed in a lunch between the raindrops.

Then went into Galena. Hit the Piggly Wiggly for some lighter fluid and some firewood. Then took in the Dowling House, which is Illinois oldest standing stone structure, circa 1826. The rain had stopped and we'd dried off a bit.

Back to the campsite, soon Hippie and his wife arrived.

With their fancy day room.

Image

And new fangled heater.

Image

Thank goodness because it began to rain again. I am sold on the room and the heater.

My little one convinced me to take a hike.

Little one was fascinated by this and made me take a picture.

Why is there a chair in the woods? She even checked that I took a good picture of it.

As the light failed, we got ready for dinner.
Image

Lola begged for her share.
Image

Then the beer flowed like wine...

The next morning we were greeted by the most magnificent day.
Image

Breakfast, a fabulous Bloody Mary, prepared by Hippie and Mrs. Hippie, then a hike to the Wooded Wonderland Store.
Image
Blueberry preserves for everyone.

Then it was time to pack up and head back. Mid sixties, sunny, a perfect day to take the bus for a 3 hours spin, through the hills, into the prairies, finally to the concrete canyons. A great trip.

Nice pix. Love the fungus-amongus shots.

You tell littleone that she gets the Gypsie seal of approval for catching the 'juxtaposition of man and nature' shot o' the day.

Jes call that one 'setaspell'
And for making you walk around in the rain.

Them heaters can really take the edge off.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

Todd your dog has the best facial expressions ever! "Oh God, please make it stop!" We could have an entire thread as long as the Lucky Lab one entitled "What's Todd's dog thinking about now?". Too damn funny!

Looks like it was a great (albeit wet!) time! Thanks for sharing!
