Mid-September - Mid-Cascades 2009?

Post by Oregon72 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 12:03 am

Last year DJEep started a thread that gave birth to a camp trip to South Pyramid. DJ's original intent was to propose a camptrip that was a little more centrally located in Oregon and a little closer for those from Eugene or more southern areas but still not incredibly far from Portland. Not saying we need to be at the exact same spot as last time, but it was a nice location. Just throwin' out the idea. Last year was a bit damp but still fun. Maybe Sept 11,12,13 and maybe Hambone won't nearly die this time :blackeye:

I'm in!
I love this Socialist camping stuff.
Also really like the Pyramids/Mid Santiam area. If you haven't been, Mid Santiam Wilderness is incredible - huge trees and intact old growth ecosystem.

I just hope those camo hunters are there to tell us how to find the camp spot :geek: I'll have to see what my schedule holds....if it's open...maybe, just maybe. The 12th is our anniversary, so may be some negotiatin' goin' on.

Is this still happening? I have a couple suggestions that are a little nicer camps if you're interested.

Twin Springs, the sister camp of Hambone Springs. Abandoned as well, and very beautiful. I think you guys would like it, very remote but not that hard to get to.

Or, even more dramatic, South Fork Mountain. A road goes right to the top. 1.5 hours from Portland. It would be a great bus camp.

Twin Springs is under old growth noble firs.
S. Fork Mtn. overlooks most of the Clackamas drainage, so it's a matter of UNDER or OVER big trees!
Sure hope you can make it.

I'm open. Only trouble is my schedule, I've been waiting on weekends off for 2 months now.

Yeah this sucks, I miss ya man. Would a different date be better? Or you could always meet me somewhere out there.

I'm now bus-less so I'm probably out for this one. Maybe I'll have mine put back together in time for the October one - perhaps wishful thinking since I'm taking my sweet time soaking in every last waft of carb spray :blackeye:

Maybe. The 11-12th would be better for me. I have something going most of the day on the 19th. Then I leave to go hunting on October 1st, back on the 7th. After that I'm free. I'd probably have to take off Saturday evening depending on how far out we are. By then I'll be back to my Sun-Thur, 10:00-6:30 shift.
