Have a great time. I always enjoy myself in the hills on the "wet-side" of Oregon...such a contrast from our mountains in the Rockies.

Not sure if I'll make it as I've got some carbs that need to be dialed in and a pulled manifold stud.

If I can, I will roll up on Friday evening / night.

Do what you can, it's a great place and worth the extra hustle.

Here's the place again:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=45.1 ... 4&t=p&z=15

Directions:
Ore224 past Estacada to Ripplebrook to 57 to 58 to the Abbot Road.
It is paved all the way to the Abbot Road. On 58 you'll climb and climb. Once you get up to a sunny grove of younger lodgepole pines it will soon flatten out. You should soon see an Abbot Road sign in the trees to the left with a narrow dirt road heading West. There should be a sign for Hambone Springs, but it's a pretty obvious right turn into the camp. If you get to a landslide in the road you've gone too far. We'll mark the entrance. Abbot Road up to that point is on a steep narrow ledge. When the terrain flattens out somewhat you know you're close. Be prepared for an attentive drive! No problems in a bus though.
In total it's about 2 hours from Portland, perhaps a bit less.

If the Abbot Road is impassible for whatever the reason, here is plan B:

Highrock Springs | Dispersed camping | No Fee-No services| 6 sites - 16 ft. max
5200 ft. elev
Access via Forest Roads 4610-190

Those are nice ones Barry!!

Sorry that Finn and I left too early this morning to say BYE to everyone. We were getting eaten pretty bad by mosquitos given the fact that I forgot my deet in the bus at home. Great spending the afternoon/evening with ya'll though. Hope everyone made it back home OK.

Here's a few not-quite-up-to-par iPhone shots I took (forgot the real camera at home too).

"hiding from skeeto bites" is a classic! Looks like a great time. Most of those roads look too tiny for either an Asstro OR a Sprinter. :pale:

hey, we were there too, we got there fri afternoon and left sat am, our boys just got bored, and the bugs were crazy, but the drive was fun..........
thanks for the bug spray, mark, and the music was great, it was nice to put some faces to names.
we ended up driving all around on the way home, almost went to Mciver park, we really wanted to get in some water, really glad we didn't....
we ending up going to the Molalla river, right off the highway, it was really crowded but the water was deep and warm, the boys loved it

GREAT pair of boys you got there. We all commented on how quiet they were in the morning...you're doin' good taking them camping. In a couple of years, trust me, they'll find more to entertain themselves with...sticks, rocks, dirt, more dirt, Hambone, a couple more rocks and sticks. No, seriously, keep camping with those youngsters and they'll be in prime camping shape in a couple of years. 1st few trips with Zane and Eli were like, well....what you experienced...now, they're seasoned. Good to see you again Nathan and Corine...join us again please  And remember, there are always those trips where you leave the boys home...I gotta do that a couple of times a year, and this was one of those times. Already lookin' forward to the next campy trip!
