Predates the Pacific Crest Trail, went from Mt. Hood to Crater Lake but now just abandoned/semi abandoned fragments. An interesting brief study, here:

That was part of the 1920s road route, one of the first in the area. But then they just moved the trail so they both existed at the same time.
Check the link above, one of them has a 1930s map with the route on it, very deeluxe, they used to do it right.
Just above Rho Creek (on Rho Ridge) is a few miles of Skyline Trail, 1950s vintage I think. But the trail itself is older than that designation.
Coming down from Rho Ridge to the north the trail drops down to Burnt Granite and then the Clackamas. Well, a fellow trail builder guy and his lady we stalked by 2 Cougars...he's a nervous woodsman too. The trail itself is very little traveled these days, and very wild.
It would still be possible to recreate most of the original route, with bits and pieces lost to clearcuts and time. Many abandoned miles still lie out there.
