weekday camping

Post by Robert » Tue Mar 24, 2009 2:14 pm

I live in Forest Grove, or am fetired and I own a 1980 vanegon (ELVA'S LOVE) that I have set up for camping., so anyone in the Portland area he has an itch to go camping during the weekdays.
I have some favorite places I like to go that are free along the coast.

Welcome. Keep checking the Camping section, there's usually a VW trip every couple months within a couple hours of Portland.
When you camp on the coast, do you know of places for free on the beach? I've only been able to find campspots in the Coast Range, or at state parks which is far from wilderness...

Jake
There are two places
1-Tillamook, drive out towards Cape Mears. Along the bay untill there is a right turn, this takes you out to the south jetty of Tillamook bay, there is a large parking area. No amenitys but is free and there are trails to beach.
2-Along the beach front in Maninita. Drive through towm to the end of the road and turn right, drive down past the last road and motel. go down to where road turns to right away from beach. Turn around at the corner and go bach toward town. I have parked overnight along road in one of the turn outs and you are right above the beach.

Yeah, there's a few of us in the Portland-ish area that have wonky work schedules. My wife and I have Thursday-Friday "weekends", Hambone has Thursday-Saturday IIRC, and MissZora has Thursday-Friday too .. but she's been kinda scarce 'round these parts lately.

I'm starting to get the camping itch, been cooped up in town too dang long. Gotta clean all the crap out of the Westy and rebuild the over-bunk cabinet though...

Welcome!

It's just because I miss him terribly.
(AND he has a nifty camper that doesn't get used that often)
(but I am scared of those dogs + cliffs etc.)

The former I'm working on (gotten down to 3-4 smokes a day), the latter .. no way no how. And don't even suggest beer.
