Wow! We got back yesterday from a quick run into the hills outside Prineville. I can't say much about Prineville, but the Ochocos were spectacular, way greener and taller than I expected. Neither Sommer nor I had been there. We had a blast. I can see some more exploring in the future to scout potential get together sites. I have part one of a trip report on the blog, http://totorovan.blogspot.com
Open range, lots of cows. Great smooth gravel rally roads. Springs, lakes and creeks. Very fun!
Anyone else been up there? Any secrets you want to spill? Well, about nice hidden gems up there anyway. . .

I camped alone on FS road #42. Off Rte. 26. I think October would be a great time to revisit when the larch trees are turning and the weather gets a little cooler. One of these days I'm gonna edit and crop some of these pictures: http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/558948112lrcXAu One night a nice storm blew in which can be scary if you are under some big pines.
