April 3-6 2008 Oregon Camp Trip - Eastside
It's about time to start lookin forward to some camping!
We will be quite limited this Spring due to heavy snowpack and low snow levels in the Cascades. Somewhere on the Eastside should be OK though.
I do know of a really cool spot near the town of Pine Grove, where a dirt road drops down and crosses the White River on a bridge (near Graveyard Butte on the map. You can also zoom in and switch to arial photo):

It should be snow-free, but mebbe Mark could take a trip down there in a couple weeks and check it out? There is a lovely camp spot right before the bridge and right on the White River.
Anyway just a thought. I have camped there before and would go back. The whole White River canyon is undesignated wilderness where few humans have been. It is a Wild and Scenic River.

That weekend should work for me. I was looking for the other thread I started months ago relating to this campout....it got put in the "club/events....." section when they split out the campin' threads. I suggested that weekend ages ago and nobody chimed in...I was feeling forgotten and completely downtroddin'...now I feel, once again, like part of the group. Yeah Bob, that place could work...I'll keep an eye on snowpack...there are a couple of other places I was gunning for...we'll see if they open up.

Sorry Mark didn't realize there was another thread out there, didn't mean to hijack.
Sure would be nice to have warm weather out there but ya never know, especially in the wildlands...but we'll have fun no matter what happens. Looking forward to spending some time in the sage, it's special out there.

Any idears on what I should bring in case of emergency? I don't have an extra set of heads to lug around like John
Tow strap? Extra battery?

Yeah come by Thursday that was fun last time.

Maybe we can drag a few folks out to the Horse Brass? Would be cool to see everyone that can't come camping.

I'm confident that snow will not be a problem at the spot Hammy's mentioning...no snow there now. The spot I'm talkin' bout is higher up on the white river in the big trees...if you're not opposed, I'll monitor things and see what the snow pack does.
Would be 30 minutes closer to PDX ... and in the trees .... I'll likely be totin' a kid...prolly Zane although Eli has been jonezin' to go camping too. Only takin' one though...two at that age by myself would mean Spiffy would have to watch one

Keep the jabs comin'. They'll help keep me motivated. I may be calling out the troops here in the next week or so for some muscle for hire.
