I wonder if taking OR6 will avoid the snow? It seems lower.

Drive safe, safe, safe Bob...I'll be watchin' for you and try to save a swig of hootch for you :drunken: ....jeez...I'll have like 5 hours of sitting in my camp alone with nothing to do but :drunken: . If you see me leaning against a tree...beep when you arrive. Thanks. I'm bringin' lots of reading materials and a movie or two...and a positive attitude and an instrument or two...or nine if you count my harps :geek:

Maybe a hot chick will appear from nowhere...as if materializing from thin air, and provide assistance

Nope, that only happens on snow campouts where a warmly dressed, inebriated man and a warmly dressed, hooded little black dog appear from nowhere to provide aide to a damsel in distress  Then, I disappear into the night as quickly as I appeared.

Looks like I should be able ta git outa town by 3:00, that should help.
What a winter! Didn't expect to have to chain up in the Coast Range.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Hey John, if you still want to git rid of that extra plasticky-rug I sure could use it! I'll trade ya for somethin.

Snow levels this season (Mt. Hood I believe, but should be indicative):

Here's what my inside source wrote about the weather this morning at 9am.

"We're through the worst of it today... snow showers will continue to diminish and slowly switch over to rain showers up to 1,000 feet by this afternoon. Only the highest spots will get any additional accumulation.

The next storm arrives late this afternoon or early this evening. It's a warmer storm; the snow level will start at 1,000 feet when the precip arrives later today, but it'll be up to 2,000 feet by tomorrow morning. We won't have nearly as many delays/closures tomorrow morning, but there will still be some in the higher, outlying districts. It'll be wet & windy for the morning commute.

Cascade snow will continue to be a story; 2-4 feet of additional snow will fall between now and the weekend. The snow level will not go above 2,000 feet at all in the next 7 days. It likely won't drop much below 1,000 feet either."

Geez, if the weather keeps up like this I might decide to go out 30 to Astoria and down 101 from there.

.. come to think of it, I might do that anyway. I've been out 6 and 26 before, but only as far out 30 as St. Helens.

US30 is WAY outa the way and pretty boring, but when you factor in the chaining up it may be worth the detour...

I'm just gonna drive cautiously, and 1st sign of consistant ice on the road that compromises traction...take 20 minutes and chain up. Bob...glad you can get out a bit earlier...the fire will be burnin' when you arrive and I have dinner covered if that helps. I think I may be glad that I recently (as many of you know) upgraded 'ole Red to an electric washer system...may need it this trip! Booze is loaded, firewood is packed, my new lanterns are ready, dutch ovens ready to cook, backgammon board stowed, rain gear, rain tarp, heater, warm clothes, and...yeah, I'm an optimist...bicycle and kite  . And about 15 killer tie dyes I did a couple of weeks ago :flower: Bob, seez ya tomorrow, rest of you on Friday. Bring wood, wood, wood and ?

If they're sayin "chains required" doesn't that mean you'll get a fine if you're not using them? Especially if there's snowpack on the road.

Tis correct, they'll need to have the road posted (which they will) if chains are still required...and then I'll comply...and lay my lil blue tarp on the wet ground and lay my old cable chains out and drive forward just a bit so the alignment is perfect then, with cold hands try to get the lil gizmo to fit the lil doohicky snug enough so when I'm driving down the road I don't hear a KER-CHUNK!!! THWACK THWACK THWACK...then me cussing loudly as I slowly pull over with my dog growling at this unfamiliar noise and being told to "stay" as I get out and say "ah, f&*k!"
