Here is the forecast for that area, at around 4400'. Snow! a few inches at least. Oh man here we go. Hey it could clear up again and get warm, it's still possible.
Worst case, we may have to go someplace lower, or drier - like the sage. You know any place out in the dry side between Portland and Eugene? I may have to look at a map. I know there's places just south of Cove Pallisades State Park, up on the Deschutes canyon. Wild there, no railroad. I could really use some desert time. Dessert time too.
Mark? You out there?

ok enough rambling, here is the OREGON CROSSROADS forecast, 4400':
Saturday Rain before 11am, then snow showers. High near 36. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Saturday Night Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Breezy.
Sunday Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 32.
Sunday Night A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
Monday A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34.
Monday Night A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 30.
Tuesday Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37

Yeah it's 50-30 f. and drier in the desert (according to the forecast...Twin Spgs....sunny they said...)
I may have the Kid with me; school is out on Friday. I would be arriving Thursday sometime and taking off Sunday.

Here is a possible option, though I don't know if that road is gated...but it is right on the top of the Deschutes canyon. Just on the other side of Cove Pallisades.

Hey there is a ghost town nearby:
http://pnwphotoblog.com/geneva-oregon-ghost-town/

Named after the first postmaster(mistress) Geneva Monical. Post Office opened in 1914, so this was one of the agricultural homestead towns that never took off due to a lack of water.
Alternate sources say the town of Geneva is closer to Grandview, so location is not known for sure. The two locations are ten miles apart and the roads do not match descriptions.

That is sheer agony. What do you do rainy minute after snowy minute after breezy minute, snowy hour after cloudy hour rainy day after slushy cold windy grey snowy rainy cold day? If I was your pre-teen daughter, I would be huddled in the corner with a blanket, shooting baleful looks, "there's nothing to DO . . . "

The ghost town exploring sounds fun but it doesn't appear that there is much left to see in Geneva or Grandview.
Have you done any mine exploring, there are a lot of abandoned mine claims out there that would be fun to poke around.

The 50s isn't bad Colin, especially when you're busy, and have a fire. Lovely under the firs.
30s and raining, yeah that sucks. But if you go east enough, it's dry sage country. Usually.
It's either put up with the weather, or miss out on the churning of the Earth. Enough layers of wool and you really don't notice.
Mike you thinkin about making it? I was just bitching about your absence.

I'd sure like to but I am still off work since being involved in that accident and my neck is still very sore. Let's see what another week brings and how I'm doing.

Ya I aint srare't neitgher. BUT if you can go east and get 20 deg warmer then whythehellnot. Did you have any place in mind in the Cascades? I would put up with krappy weather if it were worth it.
(this too, is all based on weather forecasts)
Mike hope you are feeling better. I wonder if sleeping in your bus would help?

I don't mind desert. Like I said, besides where you guys have shown me I know squat north of Santiam pass. That spot on the canyon looked pretty cool, even if it is right across the canyon from some houses.

Or there's this:

http://goo.gl/maps/kZjiX

Looking at Google Earth, it's a little butte with fantastic views.

Or Little Cowhorn Lookout. Semi-abandoned fire lookout. Bout a mile hike from the road, but worth it... Road is below snow level, lookout above.

Still searching too...

Hey Mike what do you think? You may be part of the equation too.
So far the weather situation is staying the same:
Low 30s in the Cascades and rain/snow,
Low 50s on the Eastside and less rain.

I have camped at Squaw Creek (now known as Whychus Creek) nearby at the river bottom. Nice camp, but it has been a few years though.
The camp is to the left of the creek crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=madras+o ... s&t=h&z=19

Whychus Creek Crossing Camp may be more interesting than the upper camp.. the water is there, there is a trail to Alder Springs, and it would be closer to US20. You come in at Sisters. You can also come around Cove Pallisades, but it's a long way around. DJ this camp would actually be closer to you. Yeah we really gotta figure this out, times'a wastin!

Boy do I like the McKenzie River area although it could be wet and cold this time if year. Whychus creek looks real nice but wasn't sure directions to get there.
Bob, I'm going to try out the Old Town Brew / Pizza Monday around 6:00 or so. Are you going to the Lab or OTB?
