December 21st 2012 End Of The World (Winter Solstice) Camp.

Post by Sluggo » Wed Oct 10, 2012 8:50 pm

Hamster & I did this last year (with little hamette tagging along) and it was great. The frozen forest looked like it was covered in diamond dust that flickered in the light of our primitive kerosene lanterns. Truly beautiful.

This year it will be made all the more wondrous by the Mayan prediction of the end of the world. What better place to witness the the destruction of our beloved Mother Earth than in the middle of the frozen Cascade Wilderness.

Our water tanks froze and mine cracked last year so be prepared.

OK, so it will have to be someplace paved.

Just for safety.

AT first I thought the reference was about Hell and pavement to there, or to cover the ice. Then I saw the Xelmon connection and I slid into a laugh. :thumbleft:

Snow level will be the big issue, notsomuch the road surface.
I'll be there - briefly of course.

Oh laugh it up you bastards! :P

Yeah, that's another reason why I'm thinking of taking my dads 4WD Legacy. It's a manual, and it'll have snow tires.

I'll try and make an appearance, if I'm not busy fighting the zombie hordes.

How would you guys feel about the spot out by breitenbush where we sno-camped with the dog-in-a-coat oh-so-many-years-ago? There's a hot spring within a half hours walk! eh? EH? I know I want to be soaking an already post-apocalyptic feeling hot tub sipping my Maynard James wine when it All Goes Down.

It depends on the weather. If we have a hellatious snowpack then I'd go someplace less wintery.

Hellatious, schmellatious, if we can build a road, we can clear one...

And breitenbush is right by the far end of 224/fs46, about 8 miles from Detroit. To avoid what happened to me when I tried to head to the 4/20 camp from Detroit, you pdx'ers would want to take 5 to 22 to detroit, not try and climb the pass over 46.
