I know how that goes! The 420 Memorial Campout (2nd annual) was not exactly a crowd. You'll have fun, at least no mud pits.

I gotta say, the Galena experience really made me appreciate government land no matter how fragmented it is. All you see there is PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT and fences. The magic ability to roam free is not to be missed.
Some day I want to just take a pack and wander the hills for a few weeks with no destination, maybe follow old trails like a prospector.
The Midwest like every place else is beautiful. It's a shame it's not more accessible.

Sorry I couldn't make it. You never posted the pics from the Kankakee in Indiana in November. That was a unique experience for me. I especially disliked the cold temperatures and the irrigation pump that comes on at 3 am which you didn't hear supposedly. So, we gotta revisit it soon with the canoe and float the Yellow River to the campsite.

Spring Out '10 - Marengo Ridge
15 minutes after arrival, getting set up.
Kids are going feral.
Lola stoned?
Truman wants to go home to his comfy couch.
Took the kids on a hike, and a little frog huntin'
Bullfrogs! They were either croaking or mating.
Back to the campground for a little socializing.
Future pyromaniacs and Lola is really a demon-dog.
It had been sprinkling all afternoon, but nothing too bad.
After we went to bed it really started to come down, but by morning it had stopped.
We woke to a soggy camp...
...but a fire that had a second life in it.

Interesting pix. Looks like a good place and good times were had.
That first series of pix looks like a Jarmuch flick. Did you find the retarded evil farmer living in that bus? Doubletrack abandoned rail line that used to be the lifeblood of the region. NYC? Who knows. Gone. Imagine the work and history to plan and impliment such a useful marvel of techology, a thin strip bisecting maps and neighborhoods due to some folly of the past.
