If we don't...we are kind of screwed :blackeye:

Man the ferry is expensive, like $50 from Anacortes to Lopez...is that the plan? Geez I hope I can afford it. I also hope that's a RT fare.

I'm kind of confused here this thread is sort of ramblin'. Can you guys put the dates on the subject line? I think it's Sept 7-9 but I'm not entirely sure, there seems to be combined agendas goin' on.

so does it look like 5 buses on the 10-05? lopez doesn't normally have a large capacity set aside but does get a separate loading line and i think they try to take all of them. we should be there absolutely no later than 9 am. that time of day traveling north on i-5 should not be too bad. if you leave tacoma (1st gathering point) by 6.30 (allowing for only one smoky point rest area potty break) you should make it. i would reccomend i-5 as the fastest route. i have tried the others (i make this trip 1-2 times a month in a motorhome) and if there are any 'problems' there are more lanes on i-5 to absorb the 'problem'
i will already be in oak harbor so will meet at the ferry dock.

i went to deception pass the other day to 'scope' out the sites. the ones at bowman bay are open and pleasant views of the water. the main cranberry lake park is crowded, cost is 25 bucks a night per site!!! so maybe only one night on the way off the ferry. but it allows taking a later in the day ferry since on sunday night it wasn't full so on a wed/th it shouldn't be either.

i am coming back to olympia tonite. after dinner it only takes 3 hours to olympia. i am 20-25 min past ferry dock and 35-45 min south of tacoma i stop once at the rest area to dump so that is my time line. when i go during the weekday or weekend in travel times it always adds 30 min to 90 min. from portland (jasan's house to my house olympia) it is 2 hours not in traffic.

hope that helps with some timelines.

oh when i made reservations they said since there were a group of us we could/should use the day area next to site 1 to gather for whatever so we didn't 'disturb' the other campers. (of course if we are taking up most of the spaces adjacent to each other and we gather in the middle who can we 'disturb' ???) i indicated most of us were only one or 2 people but thanked them and suggested we could have our potlucks there!

Post by susan » Thu Aug 16, 2007 9:11 am

my impression is
nights of
sept 8 lopez
sept 9 lopez
sept 10 lopez
sept 11 moran
sept 12 moran
sept 13 deception pass

not everyone is doing 100% of the dates.

Early departure Sat. AM...
Man! That is so goin' to interfere with my libation schedule...
yet...I must march on....sacrifices must be made!

I actually like the 5:00 am shove off (fishin and snowboard trips)... no traffic... coffee's fresh... (dependin'), no rush.

I am actually down for the Friday night to the ferry line (shoot, ther've been times I spread my bag right there in the grass, usually after struggling in a bucket seat for a while),

Spiff's house... dinner, jet up, sleep over...

I will have my daughter with me.

Hambone, are we traveling together for this? Eva and Lily do have fun in the back.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

It's too late now, but I see a small hitch in our thinking. Had we gone to Moran first we could have travelled back to Lopez on the ferry for free. Now we have to pay 30 something to go to Lopez, then 30 more to go to Orcas, then free on the way back. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Oh well, next time.
The best navigators aren't sure where they're going until they get there. And then they're still not sure.

Maybe Susan knows for sure...the whole free and not free thing is starting to confuse me. :cyclopsani:

basically it's free as long as you're going eastbound... you pay everytime you go west. Sidney BC is the exception I believe in which case you pay both ways.

As I understood it the round trip to and from any one island back to the mainland is free. Island hopping is individual fees. That's what it seemed like to me when I was looking at the ferry schedules.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

maybe so.. I punched in all the variables in their "fare calculator" and it said the cost was 0 going from Orcas to Lopez.. but 30-something going the opposite way. I guess we'll find out. Either way it's going to be a blast.

Did you guys want to find a watering hole in the town of the maMa Taco?

If so, that will make for a fuzzy-eyed saturday morning drive :drunken:
