Back to working out my Weber 44s while I await CIS-E

Replaced the Float in the left carb (didn't float). Discovered and removed the extra Seat washer in the right carb. Replaced my Mixture Screws. Balanced everything. Replaced the Down Rod that snapped right after I got the carbs working better than ever.

Took her on a freeway drive to European Motorworks in Hawthorne (70 miles round trip) and picked up a Redline Weber 3 PSI Fuel Pump (they had the CB Performance one but said they've being getting defect returns lately). Also got a new Air Cleaner Base.

Drive went very well. CH Temps spiked at 400 here & there but slowing a little seemed to cure it. Oil temp never went over 210.

I'm still experiencing a fluctuating idle. Goes from 900 up to 1100 for a few minutes and then back to 900. When I got home I installed the new Fuel Pump in hopes that it would end the idle problems. No dice. I still have the fluctuations. And the new pump is louder than the Facet! Instead of an air hammer sound it's now a loud whine (rotary pump).

My mileage still sucks.

I'm running:
32 Vents
130 Mains
200 A/C
70 Idle
Floats set at 11mm & 20mm

Three questions:

1. What can be causing this fluctuation.

2. Where can I place the pump that is still outside the engine compartment, close to the tank outlet but not to an area directly connected to the interior.

3. How can I increase this mileage?

Just talking to the pump noise: If it didn't come with nice thick rubber bushings, that's what you need to quiet it down.

Just chunks of rubber with a hole drilled for the screw to pass through is all you need. You can buy nice ones at a FLAPS or even Lowes or something, but it's not necessary.

(BTW: That would have quieted the Facet down some too...)

Already have rubber gromets in the screw holes. But the body of the pump rests against the wall under the rear seat. I'll put some rubber around it and see what happens.

What's the PSI Rating?

I'm more woried about mileage at this moment. I'm at about 10 MPG. That's disgustingly low. No more gas in the crankcase though!
