Carb Mounting Stud Loose

Post by sped372 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 5:29 pm

Any experience with a carb bolt (to intake manifold) that doesn't want to snug down because the "knurled" part isn't quite tight enough in the carb? Do I pull it out completely, rough it up a bit, add some jb weld and press it back in? Any other suggestions?

I had a similar problem with my bug. Dang bolt was sompletely stripped. I found one close to size and did this:

Stripped carb mounting bolt. Filed a bit of the carb to make room for the nut. Probably the culprit for the howling.

even better would be to retap and find a step stud of the right persuasion.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

That is a good idea...
