Starting my Thing after sitting a year

Post by amishman » Tue Oct 24, 2006 2:02 pm

My Thing has at a year in the garage without starting. It is a 1973. I have 1/2 tank gas. The clear filter between the carb and fuel pump is empty. I thought if I crank it for a few the filter would fill back up. Not the case for me. What is the best way to start a VW like I have after it has sat a while.

Thanks

Disable the ignition, pull spark plugs out and crank it good with a fresh battery. This will help prime the carburetor and the lubrication system.
You might want to give a light prime teaspoon of gas in the carb just before your next start attempt. That ought to do it.
