SA pulse Pumps are good aftermarket electric fuel pumps for carbureted engines.

CB Performance 3.5 PSI Rotary Pump is also excellent for carbs.

I do not have a brand for rotary electric pumps for carbureted engines, but rotary pumps are quieter.

BMW hose clamps are excellent quality for your fuel systems if you can't wait for the container from Germany to supply your favorite supplier.

I have a set of CB Performance 34mm Solex's on my type 1 and like them....the linkage is a little flimsy but works. The carb's work great and give great performance and mileage..I did perform 1 mod to them I consider essential....The stock venturis that come in the carbs have a very sudden step at their bottom edge that greatly upsets the airflow right above the throttle blades and the idle transfer slots. To cure this problem remove the venturis and grind off the step on the bottom edge, make it a sharp edge that will gradually blend into the wall. This will also prevent the throttle blades from catching on this step if the screws in the bottom of the carbs come loose. (Ask me how I know.)

If you have an original Solex carbureted VW engine, I recommend that you find an original Pierburg pump with the dual diaphram, have it rebuilt, stick it in. You will get dinged on the price and fees and additional costs but bite the bullet and get it over with. Expect a $200.00 bill on top of whatever you paid to obtain the pump in the first place, and go for the spare diaphragms kit.



These pumps know how not to flood your hot engine, unlike any of the replacement pumps. This is important for your piston rings, oil integrity, and reduction in varnish/carbon build-up in the intake manifolds/ports.

I will provide quality/functionality reports throughout the summer.

I found a couple of NOS rebuild kits from the '70's that were pretty decent at bugcity.com. Paid a shocking price for them.

im contemplating buying the $200 one as well. my car has been running rough and had to be towed twice since december. all due to shoddy pumps.

my pierburg developed a substantial leak so i purchased the WW kit. its the same cheap Brazilian kit everyone else is selling. i swapped out the spring and their black flimsy cylinder seat with the og parts. preloaded the diaphragm and installed it.
i made it to the end of my street before the car stalled with gas everywhere. The main diaphragm pulled right off the pop rivet.
WW refunded my money and i strongly suggested they stop selling it.

then i tried the airtex pump. it appears better made than the alternatives but even after swapping out springs the car till wouldn't run well.

i found a old og pump locally and that has been getting me around for now. borrowed time...

I couldn't agree more with everyone's comments about the WW fuel pump repair kits. They are garbage. I've been running the airtex fuel pumps from Autozone for the past few years with no problems at all. I think they are much better than the Brazil cheepie pumps that most are selling currently.

I wish someone would take the time to make a quality rebuild kit for the Pierburg fuel pumps. You wouldn't think it would be THAT difficult to do. While I'd love to have one of those rebuilt $200 original fuel pumps, I simply think their price point is a bit rediculous. He'd sell a lot more for $100.

Thanks all. I look forward to a correct and functional pump rebuilt by them when I get mine. My good Brosol will have to break in the engine and get it going, but I'm glad rebuilds are avilable now.
