carb repair
Does anyone know of a shop that re-bushes the throttle shafts for dual solex carbed buses? I would like to find someone who has experience with these carbs.
Best Regards,
John

Hello John.
You might be interested in this, but it does mean sending them to the UK.
Having had problems of poor power and mpg after a full top-end re-build of our 2-litre Type 4 CJ engine - by an alleged specialist - I've narrowed it to the carbs & was aware of the weeping spindle fault .
I have just discovered a specialist only 30 miles from me which does a full re-build to Solex's. This includes re-bushing the spindles, machining the top & bottom housings to dead flat, reworking the chokes, full 4-stage clean of the whole body, etc.
Try www.carbex.demon.co.uk and speak to Dave Osborne.
I'm off to start unbolting my pair right now!!
Regards
Paul

Greeting Paul!,
Thank you for the link and advice! I have already had the throttle plates re-bushed by RIMCO here in the states. Amskeptic and I have already installed them and he tuned them wonderfuly. My '73 1700 runs like never before, it is as smooth as my wife's F.I. '79 bus
Thanks and Regards,
John

How much do you charge for this? I have a pair I pulled off my new Bus. They haven't been run in 13 years but they look pretty good. Just very dirty.keifernet wrote:I also offer the rebushing/rebuilding service.

I know you all love it when I join in the discussions here, but I can and will vouch for Keiths work. This is the engine that he built for me:
And I have to say that it is one smooth running engine. Rarely do you find someone that pays so much close attention to detail that he does. He's currently doing a set of carbs for my spare parts bin, and from what I hear, the quality of workmanship is the same as he did with my engine.
Yes, Keith pointed this thread out to me, but trust me, I happily give him props on his work. Never met the guy in person and have nothing to gain. Just want to pass along a good reference where it is deserved.
HI Meyer!!

He also sold me some very nice lugbolts for my bus a few years back! And they like their new home very much, spinnin' round down there (on the wheels).

Nice!! Beautiful work.
I have been fighting with my 30 pict 1 off and on. Latest problem occured while we oot and aboot and the bus died in a parking lot. Looked at the carb and there was a little fuel on the throttle lever nut
Does that point to bushings?
Um, I think I want to send you mine....before the throttle nut squirts too much gas on the dizzy cap.

Bill,
Contact me via PM here or the samba... I will take care of you.
I just wish Hippie's bus was not so buried in snow.
I hate sending out these carbs and having to wait for them to get run. (even though I test run each one on a dedicated test engine before I send them out)
I like to hear the happy responses when they fire up... and or solve the issues via tech support if they don't
