Weber 32/36 DGEV Issues

Yes, I know it should have FI but it doesn't. I just want it to run reliably
'78 Westy, '75 1800 engine. Weber 32/36 reproduction carb. (It was there when I got the vehicle)
Work done this far:
-New Fuel System Tank to carb. Lines, Pump (Carter Low Pressure), dual filters, regulator (Holley 803), return line to tank off the regulator.
-Carb rebuilt & cleaned, it was a mess inside.
-Replaced Dist. w/ SVDA electronic points.
-Valves Adjusted
-Compression @ 100 +5/- 0 all cylinders
-Set Carb per Weber instructions
-Timing at 7.5º BTC @ Idle (900 rpm), @ 28º at 3500 rpm)
Finally out for a test drive(s).
-First run: Extremely slow to accelerate, even for a bus. Gas Pedal was getting stuck down, clutch has 3" of play.
Lubed the Clutch & Throttle Cables. Richened the mixture 1 turn, added secondary spring to throttle linkage at carb.
-Second run: Accelerated better, pedals better. Died when rolling back to idle at intersections. Died twice.
Opened mixture one turn.
-Third run: Ran better when running, still trying to stall when decelerating and now backfires. :pale:

UPDATE

-Last runs: No acceleration, through 1st slight downhill, no problem, hit second and it simply will NOT accelerate. Engine accelerates fine w/o load, loaded it's piss weak.

-Disconnected Brake Booster Line & capped. It appears that wasn't working anyway. No change in braking.
-Ran Vacuum test w/ gauge, Steady Needle 17psi at Idle, 22 psi at higher rpm.
-Checked Timing again, 7.5º at Idle, 28º at 3500 rpm. Distributor is advancing timing as it should
-Reset Mixture to start point 2.5 turns, adjust to 900 rpm idle, reset Fast Idle too. No more backfire, starts in less than one rotation.
-Tested run w/o fuel regulator, and tested w/o return line, no change either condition.

thoughts, ideas, commentary please. No, I'm not putting FI back into it until I have a 2.0l to replace what I've got.

What are your main jet sizes? What main jet sizes are called for? Everything you have listed looks good.

Update: Pulled the single DGEV, kids got me Dual 40 IDFs for my birthday. Runs a LOT better but they need properly jetted. Other bugs popped up. There's a fuel leak somewhere in the tank area. Didn't reveal itself until after a week. So i need to open that up again. Sooner or later, this thing will be 100%.
