How-to for replacing fuel pump?

My current (original) fuel pump is nearing its end. I've ordered a Bosch replacement (and a new fuel filter) and will attempt to replace it myself.

It looks straightforward, but is there a step by step somewhere to guide me through it? I tried looking for one but no luck.

77 westy, fuel injection.

John Muir's Idiot Book (How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive) seems to have a pretty good writeup, although John did say that it was easier to just pull the engine to get at the fuel pump. So it may not be the "straightforward" procedure you hoped it would be.

Good luck!

Oh JLT, no. Please. Scaring her with totally unnecessary nonsense, damaging this forum with utterly incorrect information .... see how hard I am leaning on you?

77_Bus_Girl, I am sorry. Your fuel injection pump is super easy to replace. It is bolted to the frame rail at the left rear axle with two 10mm nuts and a saddle. Mark the + on the new pump with red fingernail polish down around the side of the body of the pump so you can easily see the polarity when it is installed.

I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing out that I am sometimes a veritable cesspool of knowledge.

PS. Having a great time here in Maupin. Wish you were here.

Is there an actual Deschutes River Rendezvous going on? If so, I wish I was there, too!

Talk to Mark. I can PM you his contact info if you like. He's no longer with the Oasis Resort, though.
