Use fuel clamp for this part?

Post by misszora » Tue Jan 24, 2012 1:30 pm

Replacing all my fuel line and have a question regarding the metal cap at the base of the hose at the injector. Assuming I will damage it when I pull the hose, do I need to replace it with the same part or will a fuel hose clamp (non worm-drive) be equally as good?

I'm thinking that the metal ring clamp there will have to be carefully cut off the injector, at least it was that way with D-jet. FI clamps are fine for the new hose, tight though. Mine leaked and it was due to a loose clamp.
Dremel with cutting wheel. I do not have.

Yeah, I'm always hesitant in destroying a metal piece. I'm chipping away now, my cutters are sorta wimpy.

Another option is to slice the hose with a utility knife and put the new hose in there. The other end of the hose will get a good hose clamp to hold it is place.

I got new cutters. It wasn't easy but I got off all the old hose and that metal cap. Very crunchy...way overdue to be replaced.

yes, remove the old hose with a utility knife and cut away the metal cap. Install new hose and a FI hose clamp.
Did you have these injectors cleaned?

No, blew them out with air. Checked the connectors.
Got squeaky clean hose and the appropriate clamps in place.

How did you open the injector? Hopefully, you used a 9v battery as they are low ohm injectors. When they are cleaned by say Witchhunter, they pull the filter screen and install a new one or clean it if its good, and use a ultrasonic cleaner to force cleaning fluid thru the injector at 42 psi. That also checks em for leaks as 30 yr old injectors do start leaking at the body seals...They give you a report that tells you the flow rate of each injector so you know they are balanced. You don't want 2 injectors flowing more cc's of fuel than the other two so you have a lean/rich problem.

They were not sent away nor professionally cleaned. I've had no problems with them that I am aware of.

p.s. everybody ... when you rip the old hose off and out of the injector, the swege collar just falls off once the hose is gone.
