Type3 Engine Compartment Hose Layout (late)

Stumbled across this. Can't believe the info isn't in Bentley! A big oversight.

Very nice. Where did you find this?

(the Bentley, I assure you, treats these cars with very little interest or concern. Those manuals are merely cash cows, and they try to pump them out for as little as possible, to wit: the gruesome shrunken poorly copied electrical diagrams)

The Bentley makes every molehill into a mountain. I sometimes make the mistake of reading the manual first, getting freaked out, then doing the silly-simple repair. Usually anyway. Yeah those B&W wiring diagrams are horrendous. I also have a hard time following those ladder diagrams, but that's just my visual brain.

My SB has the lines routed incorrectly, the red line from 4 to 2 goes from 4 to 10. I'm going to reroute it like the diagram, hopefully that will solve the vacuum leak issue.

P.S. found this on Samba.

I have an issue and I need advice.
On the diagram above, the line from the decel valve goes to a port on the intake air distributor.
On my engine (1972 type 3 FI) there is no such port.
The engine is currently routed from the intake air distributor (the topmost port near the #4 above) to the deceleration valve. Also on my engine the breather is plumbed into the air cleaner intake instead of to the intake air dist.
I am trying to solve a wandering idle vacuum leak. Just bought a 8' of new hose and want to route this stuff correctly.

Any issue with just deleting the decel valve?

I am thinking that since I have mixed components from 1970 - 1972, I am going to delete the decel valve and route the hoses per the diagram above. I did a lot of research and it appears that getting rid of the valve is no big deal. I also have a 1970 distributor for whatever the reason.
I wish there were more Djet people on this forum. It's a very interesting system but I just have so much to learn and it's frustrating to not have the answers.

I am buzzzzzy trying to get ready to scram. I might be able to help you a bit when I am out there. You do not want to get rid of the decel valve unless it is absolutely necessary. These engines go rich with leaks. You can develop stalls with a rich + no decel valve. There are creative solutions .... :flower:

Yeah I know you've been especially nuts lately. I always appreciate your advice, but there must be other type3 owners in our lil' community. It's a shame they're not more active.
The problem with the decel is there is no place in the intake air distributor to plug the damn thing in.
I believe I should at least reroute the hoses, since they now go places they shouldn't, and perhaps we can find a "creative solution" (gaaaaa) for the decel afterwards.

Rerouted the hoses, eliminated the decel and it ran wonderfully.
For 5 minutes.
Now it won't start.
I guess this is the end of this thread!
