Do you mean there's supposed to be some kind of cover over the bottom hole? What about the top hole?

In all my forty years of driving VW buses, I have never had one with such covers in the generator holes. Is this like that little rubber thing that's supposed to be at the end of the hose that comes up to the air cleaner, which I have also never had?

The new generator came with a black plastic blocking plate for one of the holes, as there was only the single plate, but not for the bottom hole, as then the generator has a slight tilt in the pedestal, and vibration eventually works off the strap that holds everything in place.
