Dry cell battery? seems expensive!

My mechanic says I should buy a dry cell battery for my 72 ghia, for 160.00!
Why can't I use a normal battery? I've never had one leak in the past.
Anyone?
Thanks :bounce:

I think if you have money to burn, then get it. Hi tech stuff
But for economy sake a standard battery will do just fine. You can get a sealed unit and make sure it is secured properly.

Course, I'm a function over form kinda guy.

I'm sure others will have an opinion, but I seem to recall a recent discussion that led to the determination that the dry cell route was more money than it was worth. Could be mistaken.

Good luck.

What was the mechanic's reasoning? "Standard" batteries work just fine.

Less likelihood of battery box corrosion. . . a potentially expensive deterioration on a beautiful red Karmann Ghia for example...
