'72 Bus - Which Wiring Schematic?

Post by BumbleBus » Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:34 pm

Hi. I just got a '72 Westy that rolled off the line July 31st 1971 according to my m-plate decode. I'm working on re-wiring a lot of it. I've found the schematics here:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringt2.php

Printed a nice high-res version of the "from August 71 (1972 Models)" images. However, label "C" is marked generator and clearly I don't have one of those, but an alternator and yet other stuff seems to match up so far in my basic poking around. Should I just assume they meant alternator for "C" or am I going off the deep end and should be using the "'73" wiring schematic instead. Thanks. Sorry if this is common knowledge, I'm new to all this and searching didn't yield any answer.

Signed,
Confused

I think I would go with this assumption. Especially since, so far, everything else seems to be in agreement. Beware of previous owner hacks!
