1975 Riviera - Brake Light And Battery Light Goes On...

Post by BellePlaine » Fri Sep 11, 2009 7:42 am

...when I turn up the heat on my 75 Riviera.

So here is a weird discovery which I happened upon last night; when move the middle lever on the dash board (the one that increases the heat) all the way to the bottom, my brake light and battery light goes on simultaneously. What in the world could be going on with that? Is it creating some kind of ground? I'll have some time this weekend to look into it, but please let me know if you have any ideas.

Yes. When that lever is pulled all the way down, it actuates a micro-switch that is supposed to ground the brown/white wire that controls the aux heater blower relay back in your engine compartment. Perhaps a previous owner (of course we never do these things to ourselves!) did some creative wiring under your dash. Poke yer bean up under there and see what's what.

Thanks dtrumbo, what you say makes sense. I have to say that I was pleased to see that my brake light lights. Now if I can just straighten out the wiring.
