CHT Gauges

Post by glasseye » Mon Aug 06, 2007 11:58 am

My engine's out and it should be fairly easy to install at least the CHT sensor, if not the entire package. Can I do this? Just install the thermocouple and lead wire and choose my gauge later?

CHT gauges in general:
1) must have, nice to have, not really necessary, nothing but a fashion statement?

2) VDO guages: I'd never have one on my bus, OK for the money, good enough accuracy and trend data for this application, darn good instrument

I can't believe no one has commented yet. It is probably because this has been discussed before.

VDO 's are not the preferred choice.
Dakota Digital is the way to go.
Yes it is very worth it to have one of these if no other gauge at all.
It is also a great idea to install the thermocouple now when you can have easy access to the tin over #3. It has also been recommended to cut a notch in to cooling fin and set the ring in there so the spark plug seats better.

Thanks, guys. Both Scott's page and some stuff I found on the Samba helped a lot. DD it is.
