Accessory power source.

Post by Jivermo » Sun Jul 28, 2013 1:27 pm

:study: I need to hook up a female cig lighter type charger for my phone. Where is a good place to draw the 12v power from?

This is probably a Colin question. Don't VWs have cigar lighters? Inspect another VW and see where they tap the power from.

First, do you want "always hot"? Or "only hot with ignition on"?

Second, wherever you power it from, make sure it's fused.

Converting from a female cigar lighter plug (the most flexible auto connection) to a USB charging port is simple and cheap. USB charging is probably what you're looking for in any case, right?

Actually this is the one I have. Very well built. I only paid about $15 for mine though.

Always hot, yes, from accessory fuse #7 in most late buses.
