Itinerant Air-Cooled

Got through most of the process and want to confirm that I am putting these on correctly.

My understanding is that the face of the joint that faces the flange should be the flatter of the two. That is, the side that faces the driveshaft should have the deeper chamfers on the races. (I think those are the right words).

Here's a few pics. I wiped some grease off to give a better view.

Please let me know if this looks correct to you. My joints are old, and I can't really feel the machined ring/groove that is supposed to indicate the correct side.

Dave, I cannot interpret this.
I can only go through the general orientation with a caveat that you have other joints on the car that you can use for orientation questions.

The outer hub has a scribe groove in its outer surface that goes towards the flange. You can see this when looking at the other axle.
The ball cage has a chamfer along its edge that faces the axle shaft. You can guess that the chamfer would allow the axle to articulate to a sharper angle.
The inner hub has a shoulder. Normally, I put that shoulder at the end right under the circlip. If you found a shouldered washer that fits over the splines, re-use it. It goes onto the shoulder of the axle and preloads the inner hub against the circlip. You must tap the circlip with a socket fitting over the end of the axle to drive the circlip into its groove when you have that thrust washer. The Bentley notes that later buses deleted the thrust washer.
