It was too good to pass up. It was just too good to pass up. :compress:
Chilly up where you are?

Gypsie, you know that these kits like to miss. Why do engine seal kits decide not to supply the front main seal?
Why does packaging at FLAPS give you three in a package when you need four?

If we look at the layers of thoroughness in transmission seal kits, you would expect that there would be some sort of common sense and successive layers of depth, but I cannot glean the logic of what looks like haphazard assortments.

In your specific case here, I have no VW automatic transmission experience to share with you. When bush-whacking through the thicket of decisions, I can only say that I have let some things go for impossibly long times because they "look all right to me", and they just kept going. I never did touch the left rear wheel bearings on the Road Warrior, and that included the seals too.

Hey maybe check with a VW dealer, I wonder if they still stock some of those parts. Go Westy may be a good option too. Bus boys? I dunno but have a Vanagoon on the cover.
You will not miss another :argue: camp season.

So here's what I found out about "THE SEAL"....

it is actually 2 seals, sometimes called back to back seals, or 'differential seals, though the last one may be misleading to a parts house.

They are twixt the diff and tranny housings around the shaft...

If one wants to replace them one has to pull apart these two housings and separate the two sides. One may need to change, perhaps should change, the gaskets and O-ring twixt the housings in case they tear or get damaged during this procedure.

I think I will attempt a clean install of the "new" tranny as is. if all is well and it works, my original stock tranny will become my 'guinea pig'...er...uh...'trailblazer' rebuild tranny and I will be set for the camping season. Ifn' it doesn't work I will swap out the 'new' one for the original in hopes that the perceived issue was in the cam not the tranny.

I have prepared the mount forthe new cooler, wired it with an adjustable thermoswitch, assembled the necessary fittings and tranny fluid lines to install when the weather allows it. Great to have a garage but my van won't fit in it and the street is a lot less friendly than my old place (uneven, muddy, gravel, and downright icky...) till the sun shines. Then 'taint so bad.

I have been working on electrical stuff (engine bay starter button for easy starter bumping and such...) Running wire for the new guages I will be installing (oil pressure, oil temp, and a 2nd head temp) for a final tally of 6 guages (volt and tach), have dash pods on the way for the guages.
Also futzing with some interior body stuff (floor panels under the feet need por15 treatment)and the mold that started to grow on everything in the bus since it has sat with no heat in it since...uh....last summer. Here in the NW cold and wet is our middle name...

Hard to work in the cold and dark after getting home after work and free weekends are few.... but steady plodding forward. I need to get this cloud of 'unfinished' from over my head as it is debilitating.

I see camping in my future....ohhhhhm......
