RP Synthetic Gear Lube

Post by Hippie » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:40 pm

Anybody run Royal Purple (or any) full synthetic gear lube in the transmission?
It is supposed to be formulated safe for bronze syncros unlike most synthetic.
My current fill is Sta-Lube GL-4 conventional.

I use Redline. Recommended and used by Daryl at AA Transaxle.
Chorizo, it's what's for breakfast.

Thanks. I've heard good things about redline (but I'd have to mail-order it.)

As some of you know, I am still having difficulty shifting my wife's 091 into first gear smoothly. Daryl suggested I change from the Sta-lube to the Redline MT90 (at his cost, BTW) and I can say it's MUCH better. My issue isn't fixed (yet), but I will definitely continue to use the MT90.

Redline it is then.
As much as I like RP motor oil, I was reading some things about their gear lube since my last post and it seems RP 75W-90 has a bit of a shearing tendency...like some 40% viscosity loss in some tests. Youch.
Thanks, guys.

Get me some Redline too! I'll pay you when I get there! My poor transaxle is hitting 160,590 miles since the last rebuild.

Redline MT90 is the best! My tranny was making a whining noise when I first got it but performed wonderfully. Drained the tranny and filled it up with Redline and she's been perfect ever since.

If anyone is in L.A., you can buy it at Baller Hardware. The owners son is a classic car nut so they have all sorts of auto stuff. Plus every weird metric nut or bolt you could want.

I love places like that. I found a hardware store in the old downtown area of a...well now it's more of a suburb...neighboring small town that sells Baldwin oil and air filters. Some of the best and almost exclusively only found at commercial, farm, and truck shops.
