If there is no need to plug, then by all means I will not plug. I did notice the other head has something in it already. It looked like a flathead screwdriver would of gotten it out, bit it wouldn't budge.

Another quick question?? Do I need a puller to get the fan hub off? Thanks for the help.

You must plug that hole! It is the air injection tube that goes down into the exhaust ports. You do not want serious noise and exhaust blasting into the engine compartment. It is a fine thread, and we need to find the size. If anyone has an air injection tube laying around, we sure could use its size.

(fan hub, get a stout piece of metal between case and behind fan bolt holes, then screw in fan bolts. They will pull hub off crankshaft. Be prepared for a "pop")

Thanks for filling in the blanks for me Colin. I thought they needed to be plugged. So, does anyone have an air tube injection port thingy they could measure for me? I do have another set of heads that were rebuilt, but was saving them for the old engine rebuild. Maybe easier to swap the heads??
I will have to attempt pullin the hub off tomorrow. Today is my birthday (40) and I have a feeling between the brews, swimming pool, and Bon fire I will be in no condition to attempt this.

Thanks...dished pistons and such ;)
Colins handy hub removal worked like a charm. Is anybody running these air tubes or have a set for a measurement? Dunno how the local Ace would feel about me walkin around with a head trying different fittings n such.

I finally found the info searching The other Site and didn't have to read 30 pages of peoples bs. Here is what I found:

Some people rebuild their engine using these heads and have no idea why there is soot in the engine compartment or why it's so noisy. The holes have to be plugged up after the pump is removed. Two tubes are screwed into the holes and they are difficult to remove sometimes without stripping the threads. After removing the tubes you need to plug the holes and the best way to do it is with a 10x1 valve adjusting screw and some Loctite 518. If the threads are in bad shape you will have to chase them with a tap to clean up the threads.

Sound about right?? Thoughts??

Does anybody know where I can purchase these 10x1 valve adjuster screws? It appears the nut can be purchased just about anywhere, but the screw i can not find.

Scott at german supply had them.

I used a bolt and then tack welded the head of the bolt to the head(actually Hippie did it), sometimes the head would get warm enough and the expanded enough that the bolt would pop out!

PM me your address. I think I've got some in my basement that aren't good for their original purpose any more. You're welcome to have a couple!
