Well bad news Scott the guy from Ontario I helped, dropped an exhaust valve about 500 miles from my house, he's currently in Norman OK @ Darryl's hobby shop getting fixed again !

Looks like the valve broke from the pictures, the seat is still the head.

I agree and with all the problems I've read about type 4 parts availability lately or lack there of. Makes me really happy to have only type 1's.

If I had to drive across the country over and over and over and over in the hottest summer heat imagineable, trying to get to appointments or something (I know, who would do that in air-cooled VW?) I would take the Type 4 engine no question.

The engine was right when it left here, yes the initial cam failure was error, but the exhaust valve failure was not.

I think Colin is on to this, that there is more "error" in the engine building. First off, wiping a new cam is easy to do "if" you don't follow the cam break in procedures. Now I wonder about the heads and their rebuilding or are they "new"? Snapping off a exhaust valve on a type 4 isn't as common as on a type 1.
