clutch and flywheel
I'm gettting ready to reinstall my clutch and flywheel. It's the same hardware that I removed a few weeks back, and appears in pretty good shape. That said, is there any prep that should be done before I bolt it back up?

Make sure they're matched up correctly. Apparently, I did this wrong once and it caused the Squareback to have more vibrations than it should, as Colin likes to remind us on occasion.

Chi, if you have any chatter marks on the flywheel or pressure plate friction surfaces, sand them off with 220 grit sandpaper by carefully going around the circle at a 45* angle then back at a 45* angle. You will end up with a 90* hatch pattern. Do it twice even. Then wipe with lacquer thinner and paper towels until there is no more grey transfer to the towel.

8+ . . . if a 7mm open end wrench slides over the edge of the clutch plate, replace plate. IIRCbottomend wrote:Thickness of the clutch plate should be 7-8 mm. Use a open end wrench to see if the thickness is within tolerence.
