Crappy 94mm pistons

Post by Bleyseng » Sat Jun 22, 2013 10:54 am

Trying to show what the flat top 94mm pistons with "short skirts" do. Lots of rocking in a 2.0l so after 5k are junk. I used them in a pinch but what a waste of money.

Yetch. I could not perform any sort of armchair forensics from the pictures. Looks like a host of serious issues.

I'll bet they could be heard at first start (cold) as well. What piston/cylinder set did you use?

They were AA 94mm flat tops and a little noisy at startup.

We are waiting for Kubelwagen to post picture of his failed piston to compare skirt area.
He had a collapsed crown and a horrible "channel" down to the first ring where its gap resided. Looked like the Columbia space shuttle heat failure due to pre-ignition detonation damage.

The skirt areas are looking way too small for these big 94mm pistons which have to run extra clearance when cold.

Yes, definitely! Its a poor design and it proved it in 5k... The design works great in a V8.
