Insulation above engine-ok to leave off?

So after taking my engine out I also took out the insulation above the transmission (under the gas tank) to be able to paint the floor in that area. The top silvery surface was covered with oil/grease and I managed to get most of it off after soaking it for weeks. Do I need to put it back or what's the downside of not doing it? Just curious. I did line the inside of the gas tank holding area with the sound deadening matl..

I believe it is primarily an insulation to prevent the gas tank from accumulating drive train heat (thus the reflective silvery). Put it back or replace with like.
