78 Bus Spring plate bushings

Greetings.

Ordered a set of these from Wolfsburg West. They make their own, it seems.

IIRC, the Bentley says to use talcum powder when installing. I sent them email asking what to use on (their) bushings. The reply is graphite. Dry, I presume.

Any thoughts or tips for this project?

Got the goods today. On the invoice was a copy of my question to them. On it was the reply to use talcum powder. I'm thinking I'd feel better with the talcum.

I use talcum powder only, and lots of it, Johnsons Baby Powder will leave your bus feeling fresh and dry. It is good for treating the door seals too. No cornstarch no aloe.

I'll be off to the drugstore tomorrow. My first thought is to seek straight talcum powder if it's still made. Second choice would be the baby powders.

The bushings from Wolfs burg seem like nice units. They have that chemical smell. They are firm yet workable. I'm letting them air out a bit.

Hopefully be able to tackle this on Saturday. Need to pick up some longer bolts also

Well, that was fun. Hour and a half R&R.

I had the bushings marinating in the baby powder for a day or so. Give a shake every now and then. My thought was to absorb any residual dampness. Whatever.

Bought longer M10 x 1.5 cap screw bolts. The passenger side needed attention from days gone by. Just had to chase the treads.

Used a Scotch pad to clean everything. Wiped with a clean rag. Made witness and scribe marks on everything
And yet, in the end, it will still have to have a four wheel alignment. But it's all good.

Nice feeling having new stuff back there. Quiet and compliant.

I used some Gold Bond foot powder that was almost forgotten in my bathroom cabinet. Worked well.

Inside and outside bushings both sides? I take damn close to five hours.

Both, yes. I just had the rear apart a short while ago when I raised it back to stock. So it was still fresh in my head.
