Steering Noise

Post by vwlover77 » Sat Jan 19, 2008 2:01 pm

It's cold here today (20 deg F) and I drove my Bus! When turning the steering wheel to full lock while rolling very slowly (pulling into a parking space), something in the steering made a rapid click-click-click-click noise.

I've never heard this at "normal" temperatures.

Any idea what this is, and if it's anything to be worried about?

Does it click with the turning of the steering wheel or with the turning of the tires?

Turning of the steering wheel. It sounded like something "ratcheting".

My bus does that too. I think it might be an amplified chatter inside of the ball joint of the drag link. If not that, I am mystified.
